This might be too conspiracy-theoryish, but we’re amongst friends… do u think it’s possible that Taylor and Karlie want ppl to think they’ve been apart. So that if things do play out where Taylor formally comes out (let’s be real, she has come out many times lol) we can see they were together and then found their way back to one another? Maroon, for example.
oh yeah for sure i think this is plenty possible, if not more probable than many other scenarios. i think sometimes you might see me or others use the phrasing “public reconciliation” and that, to me, refers to the idea of working towards publicly making amends, finding their way publicly back to one another, and this being something separate from the truth of how they might actually be privately
i think it’s possible because personally, i don’t think taylor would go back and correct the record and be like oh the feuding i made that all up! —at least not anytime soon— because i think that these gaps in their story, a haze, if you will, would be kind of necessary to protect certain parts of their truth. so while i don’t really agree with the idea that they broke up but got back together, i’m not out there actively picking that line of thinking apart as an argument because i think this way of thinking about it is important to have exist given the circumstances of what i think the truth could be.
i’m not saying taylor would make up songs entirely. like, i think taylor can sing about one thing but present it as another. i mean hey, that’s something she’s always done, in a way. that is, she can tick both boxes: songs as a form of personal truth expression and also packaging it as a means to an end.
there is a nice collection of songs that a lot of people have come to consider kaylor breakup songs that i’ve curated other interpretations to, that strongly fit the major beats of what would have had to have transpired over the last several years. since you brought it up as an example, i have an idea that maroon might be about losing the 2016 election, and losing a public reconciliation narrative, as opposed to breaking up, for example. hoax, as a lot of us talked about at the time, can be about actual hurt in a long term relationship without having it be a breakup song. etcetera etcetera. honestly, slowly uncovering these things little by little has been so enthralling and has made albums like folklore and even moreso with evermore and midnights in particular so incredibly fascinating and mind blowing to me in terms of what she might have been able to get away with singing about.
i think that if you spend time with it and think hard enough on it and consider a lot of things, it’s possible to grasp that full picture. but i think that there is also an intentionality to how one can also just accept that they once had a moment and that the feuding narrative pushed by gossip magazines was real and that they (pending it happening of course) found their way back to one another. and in terms of probably never seeing eye to eye with all gaylors on it, well, ive made peace with that 😆

Anyone else remember the concept of night blogging?
I miss the simpler times when we’d see a shitpost late at night and go, “oh this is incomprehensible! This is sillybilly nonsense! OP, were you night blogging again?”
Like it used to be that the origin of shitposts was because we missed our bedtime. Now shitposting just happens… whenever…
People need to go back to being deliriously tired before posting on the internet. Being back the nostalgia.

People will look at a character who doesn’t have family/parents or their family/parent(s) die early and be all “look how TRAGIC and MEANINGFUL it makes their NARRATIVE, it’s so MOTIVATING” but no as a writer listen to me. It’s usually because we’re lazy. And accounting for a bunch of family dynamics is a lot of extra work that is keeping us from just getting on with the Adventure and/or Smooches. I am scolding us as a community for this behavior.

People who try to know you without doing the work to know you suck the joy out of life real quick. All unsolicited advice from surface-level ”friends” is judgement. It sucks to carry other people’s opinions about your own situation on your shoulders.

i dont usually do the poetry thing but it's 3 AM and i wanna throw up 👍
there's an app on my phone it's a sandbox it's zen you can make little doodles of lots of things in it fill the screen up with water and algae floats within drop some frogspawn into it and watch all the tadpoles they're little black spots that move through the screen and turn green before dropping more frogspawn into it
there's an election still counting it's important it's tense the two sides couldn't possibly be any more different at least in their promises (and those frankly are shit) but the fact still remains that in reaching for voters the popular consensus is that people want violence one side boasts of medical advancements all outlawed the other stays silent as war rages on abroad
the frogs from the frogspawn don't stay there for- -ever after some time passes, they turn dark and they sink down these little green pixels build up on the bottom it's slow. it takes time. but time just keeps mar- -ching on
the votes all roll in and the race is a razor a win is not quite assured yet, but it's close the roar of anxiety as my future's declared because only one candidate will leave my rights there
there's six rows of green now as they fill up my screen
there's three college votes now that could all seal my fate
these little green pixels they're so much less stressful
these little gray pixels they're so much more stressful
i'm not really sure how much more i can take
i'm not really sure how much more i can take
.
.
.
.
.
oh. i should sleep now. we'll find out come morning
.
.

.
i can't get to sleep i just lie here awake

Still reading through Monster, but I think I finally figured out why Trim has had me on edge this whole book. Since the first mention of Trim I have been so (irrationally?) suspicious. It felt utterly sinister and I could not really articulate why.
From what I understand so far, Trim is about finding a "genuine human connection" between oneself and someone else. But I cannot help but feel like lurking in the background is going to be the denial of the humanity of a person with whom one cannot connect.
Because that happens every day.
If you are not part of the dominant culture, the onus is on you to suppress the parts of you which do not fit within that culture so that you do not discomfit those who do fit within that culture. Because what people in the dominant culture are really looking for is a way to see themselves reflected in you. And I think this is the lens through which I have been seeing Trim.
Anyone who has navigated society or any of its institutions as part of an outgroup knows that you could excel in your field while being kind, helpful and pleasant, but failure to adequately portray all of the trappings of the dominant group will still be taken as a personal and professional failing.
Of course, you could cultivate that skill, learn all of the right words and the right ways to dress and act and all the right foods to eat at lunch and all the right topics to discuss. But that is not really connection - it's just you holding up a mirror to those with power so that they can see themselves when looking at you.
Because that is what they want. To believe that you are "just like them", and to ensure that you really "belong", because if you don't, well then they would have to expand their world view to admit the existence of other ways of being. And that would be unfamiliar and uncomfortable.
I think that because the Mbo is more accepting than Falcrest (at least on the level of gender and sexuality), there is this sense that Trim is inherently more "moral". But the Mbo is still a society, and I have yet to encounter a society that does not draw a bright line around at least some people to create a class of the abject. And I think that is why I look at Trim with so much suspicion. I don't need to find a personal connection with someone else to recognize their inherent humanity. After all, my failure in the eyes of so many people to be a person who "belongs" or who is "like them" has not made me less human.

Like, this was on a post entirely unrelated to Homestuck, and I found no evidence of Homestuck on a glance at the second commenter's account. Like.... ????

"High Chaplain of Interstellar WAR." (War is the second of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.) Fucking hilarious how they're making a joke that's already been made in HS, but it's a joke×2 combo because of the Horsemen reference actually being the title Fieri gets.
